Description
A Rare Early 16th Century Boarded Chest with painted decoration. The plank lid attached with leather thong looped though pierced holes and re-enforced with later iron hinges. The sides bound in wrought iron brackets with ornamental terminals and pierced embellishments. The front board centred by a painted heraldic shield within a wreath of fruiting vine in a scrolling cartouche, with painted scrollwork to the corners on a red ground, 24 in (61 cm) high, 48 in (122 cm) wide, 17 in (43 cm) deep.
