Description
A Fine 16th Century Carved Oak Armoire a deux-corps. The upper & lower sections both having a twin-doored cupboard; each door with four richly carved panels of repeated designs; the upper tier ornamented with oval cabochons emblazoned with quatrefoils within guilloché strap-work crested with foliate scrolls and seedling spurs, interspersed with small daisy heads, above a tier of fanned oval paterae surrounded by scrolled strapwork with embellishments. The pilasters adorned with a caryatid to the centre and atlantes either side bearing baskets of fruit upon their heads. The base section with reflected carving to the panels flanked by strapwork pilasters. The twin paneled sides with further guilloché strapwork embellishments. 193 cm high, 144 cm wide, 60 cm deep (76” h. 56¾” w. 23¾” d.)
